Plain answers before we begin.
If your question is not here, the first phone conversation is a simple place to ask it.
Earlier than many people expect. A conversation can be useful before buying property, setting a construction budget, choosing between remodel and addition, or asking contractors for pricing. You do not need a finished plan.
Focused residential work on South Whidbey: kitchens, bathrooms, decks, additions, ADUs, compact one- or two-bedroom homes, aging-in-place improvements, and unusual small sites. Select small private tenant improvements may be considered. Large and public commercial work is not a target.
The first phone conversation is complimentary. A site visit or other on-site consultation is paid with at least a one-hour minimum. Scope, fee, travel, and what you can expect from the visit are confirmed before scheduling.
Whidbey Design can help organize public information, define goals, identify questions, and recommend next steps. A preliminary review cannot guarantee buildability or replace agency review, survey, title advice, engineering, septic design, geotechnical work, or environmental studies.
General permit research and planning can be included in a written design-services scope. The exact requirements depend on the project and jurisdiction. If a project requires sealed documents, an architect of record, engineering, or another licensed professional, those services must be separately arranged. Whidbey Design does not promise approval or a specific review timeline.
Fees depend on existing information, project complexity, service level, consultants, jurisdiction, and the agreed deliverables. After an initial conversation, Whidbey Design can recommend a defined next step and provide a written proposal where appropriate.
Yes. Good projects benefit from clear collaboration among owner, designer, builder, and any separately retained consultants. If you do not yet have a builder, Whidbey Design can discuss selection criteria and may share several possible resources without guaranteeing their work or availability.
No. Whidbey Design provides residential design and project-planning services only and does not serve as architect of record. Rodrigo Toledo is individually licensed as an architect in Washington, but that credential does not change the limited service scope offered by this business.
Consultant needs and coordination responsibilities are identified in the proposal. Depending on the project, this may include survey, structural, geotechnical, civil, energy, septic, landscape, or other specialists.
Yes. Shared digital documents, video meetings, concise decision records, and agreed communication rhythms can make remote collaboration effective. Some project milestones still benefit from site access and in-person decisions.
The property address, a few photographs, any available survey or records, a short description of what is not working, what you hope to change, and your current sense of timing and construction investment. Incomplete information is normal.
